Why I Paint for Children — and the Child in All of Us
A Childhood Full of Color and Fabric
When I was a little girl, one of my favorite things in the world was going with my grandmother to the fabric shop.
She was a sewist, and for me, that shop was a world of color, texture, and endless imagination.
I could spend hours looking at all the drawings on the fabrics — tiny animals, flowers, stars, and playful shapes. I wanted to take a pencil and paper right there and start sketching every detail I loved.
Wearing Drawings and Imagination
Usually, my grandmother would let me choose one or two fabrics to bring home. She would turn them into something for me — pajamas, a little skirt, maybe a pair of shorts.
And I remember how special it felt to wear those clothes. It was as if I was *wearing drawings*, carrying little worlds of imagination with me.
Those clothes made me feel inspired, creative, and somehow magical.
Keeping Small Wonders Close
Even today, I love keeping small pieces of fabric or patterned paper around my home. They decorate my workspace, my walls, my notebooks.
They remind me that joy often hides in small details — a color, a line, a brushstroke.
That’s what inspires my work: the idea that art can make everyday life softer, simpler, and full of quiet smiles.
