How I Collaborate with Brands to Create Meaningful Products
There’s a special kind of joy that comes from seeing your art turned into something people use and love every day. One of those moments for me was when I created a small metal cup — a simple enamel mug — decorated with a watercolor rabbit holding a flower in its little garden.
That design was born from a story. It was made for a little girl named Michelle. Her grandparents told me how sweet, girly, and loving she was — their “sweetest granddaughter.” When I sat down to paint, I imagined her gentle, joyful energy and translated it into that tiny rabbit offering a flower.
When the first cups arrived, I was so happy I could hardly believe it. The design came to life perfectly — soft colors, delicate lines, and a tender feeling that captured exactly what I wanted. Even now, people still send me messages saying that the cup makes them smile each morning as they drink their coffee or spot it sitting on their table.
That’s what I love most about what I do: creating artwork that quietly brings warmth and joy into everyday life.
From Idea to Product
My creative process always begins with a concept — a feeling, a person, a story. In this case, it was Michelle and her sweetness. From there, I move to sketching. I love working on regular paper with a pencil; it allows me to make mistakes, explore, and connect with the drawing through the texture of the paper.
Once I’m happy with the composition, I transfer the final sketch onto watercolor paper and begin painting. I often have a color palette in mind, but I let the water and pigments lead the way — that’s where the spontaneity and magic of watercolor live.
When the painting is finished, I scan and digitize it. Each element is carefully built in layers so I can easily adjust colors, reposition details, or reuse certain elements for other projects. For instance, an animal from a pattern might later become a sticker or a greeting card. This layered approach gives me the freedom to adapt my work for different products while keeping the hand-painted texture intact.
Collaboration in Action
Some of my favorite collaborations have been projects like a memory game and milestone cards, I’m currently developing with a baby brand. I truly enjoy these creative partnerships because they’re built on communication, trust, and shared values.
When working with a brand, I like to understand their vision — who their audience is, what emotion they want their product to convey — and then align that with my artistic direction. I see every collaboration as a dialogue: they bring their story, I bring my creativity, and together we create something unique that neither of us could have made alone.
What Makes a Collaboration Meaningful
For me, a meaningful collaboration is built on clarity and mutual respect. Both sides should feel heard and valued. My goal is always to make my art enhance their product — to create something people will not only want to buy, but will *love* owning, gifting, and using in their daily lives.
When a design brings a smile to someone’s face, or a product becomes a small part of someone’s happy routine, I feel like I’ve done my job.
